If your physician requests that you have a CT examination of your Abdomen and Pelvis, you will need to follow specific directions. Most CT scans are done with two types of contrast.
  • Oral contrast - can be either water or a barium drink known as E-Z cat. These types of contrast are designed specifically for the colon.
  • IV contrast - is done with an intravenous contrast injection into a vein in your arm.
Depending on what condition your physician is diagnosing will determine the type of oral contrast you will receive. Our staff is trained to give you the proper instructions for your scan.

If your test is ordered with contrast, we request that you do not have anything to eat or drink 3-4 hours prior to your test.
