If your physician requests that you have a CT examination of your Abdomen, you will need to follow specific directions. Most CT scans are done with two types of contrast.
If your test is ordered with contrast, we request that you do not have anything to eat or drink 3-4 hours prior to your test.
- Oral contrast - can be either water or a barium drink known as E-Z cat. These types of contrast are designed specifically for the colon.
- IV contrast - is done with an intravenous contrast injection into a vein in your arm.
If your test is ordered with contrast, we request that you do not have anything to eat or drink 3-4 hours prior to your test.
